Mothra vs. Godzilla

*This may contain spoilers*
Rating: Not Rated
Staring: Akira Takarada and Yuriko Hoshi
Released: 17th of September, 1964
Genre: Action, Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi

My review,
It is hard to describe quite what this is about. It's really one of those things you should see for yourself. And it has it all, mysterious thing that washes on shore, miniature twins who sing, reporters, a dinosaur, a big city, and a little island, crazy island natives, an evil large corporation, two armies and a giant moth. Really, what else do you need? It's really what you would expect from a Sci-Fi movie filmed in Japan in the 1960's. If you've seen the original Godzilla, it's going to be very similar to that.

To sum it up, I enjoyed it.

Flash Gordon

*This may contain spoilers*
Rating: PG
Staring: Sam J. Jones and Ornella Muti
Released: 5th of December, 1980.
Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Thriller.

My review,
This movie just really makes me laugh. I can't listen to Queen without thinking of this movie. To put it shortly, it's ridiculous. It's what you'd expect of a 1980 sci-fi movie. I'm not saying go out of your way to watch it... But if it's on, and you can bear it, it's pretty funny. When I say bear it, I say it in mind of not only what the movie is about, but mostly because of the acting, and the outfits, well, really, everything. The movie is funny, in a "You've got to be kidding me?" kind of way. There's no real way of explaining it, a way of putting into words  this movie. I would say, watch it once and never again.

To sum it up, it's pretty funny.

Fast Five

*This may contain spoilers*

Rating: PG13 "Violence, Action, Sexual content, and Language"
Staring: Vin Diesil and Paul Walker
Genre: Crime, action, thriller
Released: 29th of April, 2011

My Review:
I enjoyed it, it is probably my favourite of the series! For starters it takes place in one of my favourite cities Rio De Janero, Brazil. It has nice cars, good driving, and the taking down or helping to take down a crime boss, what's there not to love? Well made, alright acting. I've never been real fond of Dwayne Johnson's acting abilities, but aside from that it was good. I would say if you liked the other Fast movies, you will really love this one. I would say of the actual quality of the movie this one is the best in the series. I also feel like it wrapped up some things that you wanted to see and end to.

To sum it up, I'd say watch it. I liked it.

The Green Hornet

I'm going to start by giving you some film stats, about the plot, then go into my review. *WARNING - THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Rating: PG13 for, "sequences of violent action, language, sensuality and drug content."
Staring: Seth Rogen and Jay Chou.
Released: 14Th of January, 2011.
Genre: Action, Comedy, Crime.

Plot:
After the death of his successful business man dad, Brett (Seth Rogen) Reid is left with the family newspaper company, knowing nothing about running a business. But with an idea and the help of his fathers mechanic Kato (Jay Chou), he may just find a way to run this paper.

My Review:
It was good, not the best super hero movie, but certainly not the worst. I had heard some terrible reviews about the lame action, boring dialogue, and bad acting. I will say now, I disagree, sure it wasn't the most fantastic movie, but I thought it was funny, in the beginning the acting was a little campy, but it got better as the movie went on. The action was what should be expected, and yes though you could say it was unrealistic, it is a super hero movie, sometimes their stunts are a little over the top. There was more language than I think people were expecting, so that was probably one of the reasons some people didn't like it. Over all I thought it was pretty good, not necessarily for younguns, but pretty funny.

To sum it up, I enjoyed it.

Battle: Los Angeles

I'm going to start by giving you some film stats, about the plot, then go into my review. *WARNING - THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Rating: PG13 for, "sustained and intense sequences of war violence and destruction, and for language."
Staring: Aaron Eckhart and Ramon Rodriguez.
Released: 11th of March, 2011.
Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller.

Plot:
Aliens come down, from who-knows-where, to harvest our planet and kill all of humanity in the process. They attacked dozens of coastal locations around the world, with remarkable tactical skills and resilience. The worlds only defence is the military finding a way to out smart and out arm them. In grand shoot outs and chases this happens. But the battles not over just yet, they've only won back Los Angeles.

My Review:
So, I liked it, it had a few cheesy moments, but only a few. For instance "Maybe I can help. I'm a veterinarian." though the movie was at a sort of intense part, a few of my fellow movie goers and I couldn't help but laugh out loud. I was kind of expecting a boring extraterrestrial film, with violence, cussing, and gore to make up for lack of a plot, and bad acting. But it was interesting it had a little drama, but not so much that it takes away from this being an action film. It had allot of fun explosions, and such. I would say if you like action, you should watch this.

To sum it up, if you like action and aliens watch it.

Megamind

I'm going to start by giving you some film stats, about the plot, then go into my review. *WARNING - THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Rating: PG for "Action and some language."
Staring: Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt
Released: 5th of November, 2010.
Genre: Animation, Action, Family, Comedy, Sci-Fi.

Plot:
Escaping from dying planets two babies were sent to earth, both with strange ability's, one took on the name of Metro (Brad Pitt) Man and the other took a more "humble" name Megamind (Will Ferrell). One turned to the good ways of helping the city and the other took to the ways of destruction. Megamind and Metro Man battles for years until some fatal events left the city with no protector, and Megamind was set to rule the city, but he got bored of being the ruler and decide to create a new super hero to fight him. But as it seems that didn't work out and maybe Megamind isn't such a bad guy after all, maybe he does deserve love and happiness. Maybe megamind can take a turn at saving the city of Metropolis.

My Review:
It was great, the writers Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons must have had a blast writing this. It was very clever. You could watch it and pay attention and find that it has so many wonderful hidden things through out it and you would get so much out of it. Yet you could watch it, not pay attention, and still get it. It was wonderfully made, possibly one of the best animated films ever. Will Ferrell, and I'm sure Brad Pitt had a great time voicing it also, because it was so clever and funny. I would recommend this for every one except maybe children who are scared easily because there are a few moments that might scare a small child, but really it's great for anyone.

To sum it up, just watch it.

They search the Matrix for people to extract, people who are exceptional, people who can help them. They finally found one, they found the one. The one who would help them bring down the Matrix.

My Review:
To all the people who told me this was a must see, this was one of the greatest movies ever made, I would like to say that I disagree. I went into this with an open mind and came out of it with a mind made up. I suppose it had some good graphics, some fun action scenes. But so so much of the content I think should have been approached different or removed. Not to mention the countless errors, people moving from scene to scene, reflections not lining up, weapons completely changing in the middle of a sequence. It wasn't awful, but I probably wont watch it again.

To sum it up, it's not a must see.

The A Team

*This may contain spoilers*

Rating: PG-13 "intense sequences of action and violence throughout, language and smoking"
Staring: Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson
Genre: Action, Adventure, Thriller
Released: 11th of June, 2010

My Review
I know it doesn't say comedy in the "genre" section, but it was really funny, and that's what made the movie. It was good it had some impossible seeming stunts and action shots, but that was almost comical, they made the movie interesting. The acting was good, it was action packed as you would expect. But there was more to it then just the action, it had a little but of drama, some romance, and as I said the comedy element was very present in the film. It had a great colour to the film, very vibrant, I thought it was well made, I could watch it more then once, that's for sure.

To sum it up, I really liked it, I laughed allot!

My Review:
To my surprise, it was hilarious! I mean honestly Tom Cruise funny? Yes. It was good, it was unpredictable at times, which is always a plus. It had some language that might surprise people, but not to much. It was an average action-adventure-comedy. I liked, I laughed some.

To sum it up, it was entertaining.

Inception

I'm going to start by giving you some film stats, about the plot, then go into my review. *WARNING - THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Rating: PG-13 for, "Sequences of violence and action throughout."
Staring: Ellen Page and Leonardo DiCaprio
Released: 16Th of July, 2010.
Genre: Action, Crime, Mystery, Thriller, Sci-Fi.

Plot:
This is the story about a man who, you could say, is a thought thief. Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) goes into the dreams of people to extract information from them, by breaking into a vault of their secrets. But how long can he go before he can't tell reality from dream? Will his secrets help him, or will they kill him?

My Review:
It was good, and I'm saying that from the perspective of not liking the majority of movies Leonardo DiCaprio is in, I though his acting was great. The movie had wonderful graphics, intriguing dialogue. I was kind of let down, because of the press this got, I thought it was going to be one of those movies that if you took your eye off of it you wouldn't know what happened, and I love those kind of movies. But it wasn't I understood it fine, and I wish I had not seen all the press about this movie, and so many people saying it was the most complex movie they have ever seen. But none the less, I like it. It was well made, well acted, so interesting.

To sum it up, I would recommend it.

With a stand off between Spencer and Mr.Kornfeldt, Jen gets fed up, and has a little sit down with her Mom Mrs. (Catherine O'Hara) Kornfeldt, Dad, and Husband about no secrets, and no trying to kill each other.

My review;
It was pretty average action wise, there wasn't a whole lot of blood, it didn't really show many "dead" people but it was implied that they had been killed. It was an okay movie, I'd recommend renting it, there wasn't a whole lot of nudity or language. Being a 4-H kid I did love that Spencer (Kutcher) said that he learned to shoot in 4-H. I didn't think it was anything new or fantastic, but I did enjoy to watch it, it was funny. I will add that it did have a few unexpected twists, that were good.

To sum it up, watch it, it's fun.

After being beaten numerous times by Cheng and his gang, Dre ask the handy man, who saved him from Chengs gang once, if he would train him. At first he declined, but after a run in with the other boys trainer, it was either fight in the ring or on the street, and if they were to fight in the ring that would give Dre time to train and there would be no fighting until then. Dre and the handy man Mr.Han(Jackie Chan, trained countless hours, until it was time for the fights. he had a series of battles until he got into the top two, to fight Cheng. He was seriously injured in one battle, but persevered, and ended up winning. Chen saw how good Dre was, and what a great teacher Mr.Han was, so him and his gang made peace.

My Review;
Let me start off by saying, it is SO much better then the original 1984 Karate Kid. It had a very well written script, the actors were awesome. Jaden Smith is going to be a great actor someday, he's only 12 and he's already really good! And who doesn't love Jackie Chan. It had a great feel of traditional Martial Arts, but the new feel of a story people can relate to now.I thought it was really good. I may not watch it 100 times, but if it was on I'd watch it again, I would even rent it again. It was great, it's good for the whole family. I thought it was very well made.

To sum it up, watch it with your family or by yourself.

Rescue Dawn

I'm going to start by giving you some film stats, about the plot, then go into my review. *WARNING - THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Rating; PG-13 for, "some sequences of intense war violence and torture."
Staring; Christian Bale and Steve Zahn.
Released; 25Th of December, 1993.
Genre; Action, Adventure, Biography, Drama, War

Plot;
Laos, Vietnam, A pilots first mission. Lt. Dieter (Bale) Dengler, was flying over Laos when his plane was shot down. After a while of running he was found drinking from a stream. He was tortured and taken to a camp where he was held along with 5 other prisoners, 2 of them American. He quickly devised a plot to escape. After plotting and planning they were ready, they broke free on July 3rd. They met up after the break, by that time there was only 4 of them. They split up Duane (Steve Zahn) went with Dengler, it is unknown what happened to the other two who split from them. Duane and Dengler traveled for days trying to get to safety. They traveled through harsh Teriann, awful weather, and suffered numerous injuries. After so long they came upon a village where, to put it in a way, Dengler escaped by inches and he was now alone. At last some one had found him, some one who would take him home. He was picked up by helicopters and taken to a hospital to recover. Also he was confined until he could be debriefed, because his mission was top-secret. Some friends from his out-fit heard of his rescue, and came to visit. They were anxious to get him back to the ship to have a proper welcome, so they snuck him out of the hospital, and brought him home.

My Review;
It was good. I had only heard about this movie from others reviews until recently when I bought it. I must say, it was worth buying without first watching. The story was so inspiring and it was, in fact, a true story. Dieter Dengler never gave up, he never quit trying to get home. Though he never got some secret information that ended the war of anything, he was a true hero, he was the story of a great American. He was a story of endurance, of faith, of strength. This movie was great. I think it really shows just how much our soldiers go through to keep us safe at home.

To sum it up, I liked it, it is a great historical film. I recommend it.

Robin Hood

I'm going to start by giving you some film stats, about the plot, then go into my review. *WARNING - THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Rating; PG-13 for, "violence including intense sequences of warfare, and some sexual content."
Staring; Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett
Released; 14Th of May, 2010.
Genre; Action, Adventure, Drama.

Plot;
As most already know the story of Robin Hood, I will keep the plot short. Robin (Russell Crowe) Longstride was in battle when King Richard (Danny Huston)the Lion Heart was killed, him and a few of his fellow soldiers left, and later came upon a few who had been ambushed, these few were the men who were chosen to carry home the crown to London. Robin and his friends took the place of the men chosen to carry the crown, thinking it as a ticket home. Robin also promised that he would return the sword of one of the men, Sir Robert (Douglase Hodge) Loxley, to his father Sir Walter (Max von Sydow) Loxley. When he arrived he found out the troubles that the town was having and Sir Walter, asked if he would stand as Walters returning son, as Marion (Cate Blanchett) Loxley's husband. He agreed. The fought the corrupt and won the battle of France Vs. England. But at was not all great and merry after the triumph. King (Oscar Isaac) John was jealous of peoples love for Robin, and so declared him an outlaw.

My Review;
Let me start off by saying, who didn't like Friar Tuck played by Mark Addy? He was great. The cast of this movie was awesome, and with a writer like Brian Helgland, and Ridley Scott directing you're asking for some pretty great action. But the line-up shouldn't make the movie, and believe me it doesn't, Robin Hood has more than just some great people, it had good writing, perfect timing, great pace, wonderful cinematography, it was truly a joy to watch. There were only a few scenes of nudity, and virtually no language. I loved it. I think if you're thinking about weather to watch the theatrical version or directors cut? I would go with Directors Cut, it really gives you more insight, and I feel like you really get more out of it if you don't miss those scenes.

To sum it up, if you like action awesomeness rent it, it's worth it.

Tombstone

I'm going to start by giving you some film stats, about the plot, then go into my review. *WARNING - THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Rating; R for, "violence."
Staring; Kurt Russell, and Val Kilmer.
Released; 25Th of December, 1993.
Genre; Action, Drama, History, Romance, Western.

Plot;
This is the story of how Wyatt (Russell) Earp, along with his brothers and friend Doc (Kilmer) Holliday take Tombstone from the grasps of it's tormentors "The Cowboys". Earp moved to Tombstone in hopes of finding peace and retirement from his law-man/ gun slinger days. Little did he know, just how big his reputation was, no matter where he went every one knew him. With no one else to take charge Wyatt, his brothers, and his friends fought the history making battle of Tombstone.

My Review;
I must say this is Val Kilmer at his best, he was a great choice to play Doc Holliday. Like most Historically based movies, you have to leave some room for inaccuracies, but there were a few too many for my taste - as a lover of History. But it did have good action, interesting plot, and it's funny moments. To me it seemed like it was 200 minuets, though in reality it was only 130. To me it wasn't the greatest, I was bored watching it. Though I did like the scenes with Holliday, I think he was truly given some of the best lines. To me it seemed like any other modern western with a famous name. I think they rely to much on "Tombstone" and "The OK-Corral". I think if the inaccuracies don't bother you to much, it's an alright movie. Not my favourite, but alright.

To sum it up, it's okay, if you like westerns - watch it.

Avatar

I'm going to start by giving you some film stats, about the plot, then go into my review. *WARNING - THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Rating; PG-13, for "Intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking."
Staring; Sam Worthington, and Zoe Saldana.
Released; 18Th of December, 2009.
Genre; Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Fantasy.

Plot;
The sky people (Humans) invade a moon called Pandora, where the Na'vi people live, so that they can harvest a substance called "unobtainium" that is worth billions back on earth. Along with the people who are just there for the rocks, are people who are there to study and learn about the natives. When one of the scientists who were studying the people dies, they call in his ex-marine brother to take his place because the are related and he can activate his brothers "Avatar". Soon the scientists realise just how corrupt the heads of this operation are, and join forces with the natives to try and save the world that they live on from the destruction of the sky people.

My Review;
First off I'd like to say that the world that was created, Pandora, was very interesting. It had great colour, and the Na'vi people had an interesting past. Though the animation was good, I didn't like the scene when they first meet the great toruk, it seemed very fake in comparison to the rest of the scenes with the bird-like-creatures, it looked like paper mache on a string. And one of the more interesting things was that the amazing substance that was so hard to obtain, was called "unobtainium", I know that "unobtainium" is a true scientific term, but really? They could have come up with something a little more creative. Over all it was alright, but I probably won't watch it again. Personally I got kind of bored watching it. It still had the same typical plot. It was good in a sense of it just being an average movie, made in 8 months, or a year because of all the animation. But because James Cameron has been working on this movie 15 years, I heard, it just doesn't seem that fantastic.

To sum it up, I could give or take it.

The Other Guys.

I'm going to start by giving you some film stats, about the plot, then go into my review. *WARNING - THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

Rating; PG-13, for "Crude and sexual content, language, violence and some drug material"
Staring; Will Ferrell, and Mark Wahlberg.
Released; 6th of August, 2010.
Genre; Action, Comedy.

Plot;
Terry (Wahlberg) and Allen (Ferrell) are NYC Police partners, Allen works in the office and is happy, Terry also works in the office but is not. Terry wants to be out there solving cases. One day when two office hot-shots Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) and Danson (Dwayne Johnson)were chasing bank robbers, they jumped off a building and fell to there death. With this team gone, who will step up to take their place? This starts a sort of a competition between two of the teams in the office Terry and Allen VS. Fosse (Damon Wayans Jr.) and Martin (Rob Riggle), to find a big break. Allen and Terry find that a simple case of forgetting to file for scaffolding permits, is connected to a bigger scheme of embezzlement and fraud.

My Review;
What a team? Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. Two great actors, one a comedy star and the other an action guy. There was a great mix of action and comedy, and an awesome line up of supporting actors Steve Coogan, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Keaton. Though hilarious, I will say that the rating is accurate, I don't often agree with what the 'MPAA' rates movies, but it is a PG13 movie. The definition of PG13 by the MPAA is "Parents are urged to be cautious. Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers." But I know each person knows what PG13 means to them or their family... Any who, director Adam McKay, does a great job with making the movie flow. It's quite unpredictable, which is good for a movie because you don't want a movies you know every thing that is going to happen, what fun is that? Though one thing I think the could have done without is,the picture slide show, it was a little boring, I must say. But...

To sum it up, it was entertaining and very well acted.

Cole.
